AADA Acts of Kindness; The sustainability of up-cycle culture in fashion.
We entered into the new year with fond memories from our Aada collection launch in December, which happened to be our first clothing line. We had some of you around to celebrate and experience it with us too.
Having been left with a large amount of off cuts materials from aada collection, Our creative director, Moyo, reflected upon the values embedded in the collection and the playfully repurposing, bundling, stitching together of Aada hand dyed Adire off-cuts with other bundles sourced from the nearby lagos island market in downtown lagos, hoping to embody the solution and need for considered consumerism leadership.
Aga culture is inspired by African culture and we function based on five key values; ife (love), alaafia (wellbeing), okanbale (peace), ayo (joy), inurere (kindness). We are constantly evolving in exploration of stories, forms and shapes in furniture, clothing and objects, that makes sustainability a core ingredient in our business processes.
The values that we function by embodies what sustainability entails as it is ingrained in culture. Inurere which means kindness reminds us to be kind to our environment, community, and the society as a whole.
We do that by repurposing our waste fabrics and that gives us more expression of our creativity, by that, we make the environment a better place to live in – that is the true act of kindness.
Upcycle - reuse of off cuts in such a way as to create a product of higher quality than the original.
Lagos, Nigeria, is a bustling city. A small fragment of the city is allocated to different waste heaps.
This thought process begged the question; “How can we reduce this waste heap?”
AADA Acts of Kindness is a collection that embodies sustainability, repurposing and love.
